Electric Guitar Lessons Buying Guide
Without electric guitar, music would not be what it is today.
The electric guitar can be used in almost any style of music including Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, Hip Hop and many more. Its versatility is what makes it so popular.
Most people agree that the electric guitar is easier to play than an acoustic guitar because it is easier on your fingers, so you can play longer without destroying your fingertips!
The only real downside to playing electric guitar is you need an amplifier in order to get the sound you want, but it’s totally worth it.
Electric Guitar Advantages
There are many advantages to playing electric guitar, here are a few:
- Less tension on the strings means less pain on your fingertips. This is also a plus for beginners who might not have a lot of strength in their fingers yet.
- Great for solos. The electric sound stands out from the rest of the instruments to give you some 1-on-1 time with the audience.
- Volume control. With an electric guitar, it’s easy to crank up the volume and melt some faces!
History of Electric Guitar

In the early 1930s, jazz musicians were looking for a way to make their guitar sound louder and more defined.
When orchestras started to get larger, the sound of the guitar was being drowned out. So the louder and clearer sound of the electric guitar became a necessity.
Later, in the early 1940s, guitar makers started making electric guitars more accessible to the public.
Les Paul and Gibson Guitar Company engineered the first commercial electric guitars and they took off like wild fire. And thus, Rock and Roll was born.
Fast forward to modern day, and the electric guitar is still extremely popular in the music world and probably will be forever.
Why Take Electric Guitar Lessons?
If you are a beginner, you should start out with an electric guitar. Acoustic guitar can be rough on new guitar players because it can tear up your fingers pretty easily.
Electric guitar is a great learning tool and is also really fun to play.
We combed through all the most popular electric guitar lessons on the Internet and found that JamPlay.com has the best price and quality of lessons.

I’m interested in learning to play Jazz guitar in the style of Wes Montgomery
and George Benson, to name a few. do you have courses in this style?
also, what are some of the songs in Jazz you teach?
Hi John,
Great choices man! Those are fantastic artists to emulate.
We don’t teach any of the lessons personally, we just made this site to show other guitarists our findings since we bought tons of courses online.
That said, most of the lessons we’ve seen don’t offer many specific Jazz songs, though some cover the genre quite well.
More specifically, Guitar Tricks and JamPlay offer the most Jazz guitar lessons.
Hope that helps!
Kyle
