Online video lessons and DVD guitar lessons are becoming increasingly popular for beginner guitarists once confined to self-taught books and private lessons. Video lessons are incredibly detailed and informative, but the only problem with these types of lessons is that there is no conceivable way to pause the video and ask the instructor a question, something that is likely going to happen when you are learning new material.
Hence, guitar forums have really jumped on the opportunity to provide an online, virtual community for guitarists. Guitar forums are not only an important place for people that are 100 percent committed and to playing guitar, but also an exceptional resource for beginners.
What you will find on a guitar forum…
Online forums are popular because they bring together likeminded people that may have otherwise never met. You may be from a small town or a little shy, but forums bring together people of all ages from all over the world which share the same hobby. Guitar forums are no different.
The forum may have different sub-forums depending on its purpose, but the general mission of a guitar forum is to provide a little of everything music or guitar related. The forum may have a section dedicated to talking about music as well as favorite musicians. Then, you can wander over and ask a question about purchasing a guitar or amp. Lastly, the forum will have sections where beginners can ask questions to more experienced, advanced guitarists.
Why beginner guitarists should take advantage of forums…
First and foremost, forums get you connected with likeminded people who share the same passion. The more often you visit, the more likely you are to meet and hold discussions with people that share your same passion.
Forums are also great because they bring people together of all different skill levels. Most forums will have a few experts that have been playing for years, along with a number of beginners that need some advice.
When you first start playing it is only natural that questions will arise. Here is your opportunity to ask your question(s) in an open forum where you more than likely will get a number of responses from a number of different people, some with a different take on the matter.
What guitar forum to join…
Don’t be shy! If you are learning to play you have no excuse not to join a forum or two! Some of the top rated guitar lessons on the Web actually have forums right under their domain. If that is not an option, there are a number of forums to join on the Web for free.
There really is no wrong answer here. Try setting up a few accounts at different sites and see which one you like the best. You may even end up visiting all of them from time to time!

I’m interested in learning to play Jazz guitar in the style of Wes Montgomery
and George Benson, to name a few. do you have courses in this style?
also, what are some of the songs in Jazz you teach?
Hi John,
Great choices man! Those are fantastic artists to emulate.
We don’t teach any of the lessons personally, we just made this site to show other guitarists our findings since we bought tons of courses online.
That said, most of the lessons we’ve seen don’t offer many specific Jazz songs, though some cover the genre quite well.
More specifically, Guitar Tricks and JamPlay offer the most Jazz guitar lessons.
Hope that helps!
Kyle
