Kids Guitar Lessons
Who says playing guitar is only restricted to adults? It’s never too early to learn guitar, and providing your child with an instrument to play from an early age will give them a fun challenge (even a hobby) that they might pursue for years down the road. Who knows, you might even get thanked first at their Grammy award speech twenty years from now.
Kids guitar lessons, like you might imagine, keep the information you need to learn to play guitar basic, and in a fun to learn way that is tailored 100 percent toward children. It’s not like they won’t be able to learn the same beginner information as an adult would learn about the guitar, but the information will be presented in a way that makes sense and is entertaining to kids.
How do I know my child wants to play guitar?
When an adult decides to learn guitar he or she is making a conscious decision to learn something new because they have a desire to try it. It’s not quite that easy to gauge the interest of a child, though there are some hints that your son or daughter may be musically inclined.
If he or she likes to sing and/or appears absolutely enamored by watching someone else play music, those are clear hints that your child may want to play guitar. Sometimes it’s not that obvious but kids are pretty good at indicating where there interests lie, even if they might change rapidly.
Benefits to Teaching Kids Guitar
There are actual studies that have proven teaching your child a musical instrument will not only improve their creativity but also serve as an intelligence boost. Studying music also enhances quality traits like self-discipline and diligence while also bringing people together. Is your child shy? Music has a way of bringing kids out of their shell.
Kids Guitar Lesson Approach
You wouldn’t expect a child to learn to ride a bike the same way as an adult, which is why training wheels were designed to support youngsters when they are first learning to ride. In essence, guitar lessons for kids put the training wheels on the guitar, providing the basic foundation that will one day no longer be required as your son or daughter progresses to more advanced stages of playing guitar.
Kids are able to play many of the same things as adults, but there learning curve is longer which makes the progression through kids lessons slower. More emphasis is placed on correct posture and strength exercises for a growing boy or girl that is developing the strength needed to play guitar.
Best Kids Guitar Lessons
Unfortunately, a lot of guitar lessons exist in the world, but few of them specifically target children. There are a number of fantastic guitar lessons for beginners, but that doesn’t mean the same way the information is introduced will apply to kids.
You’ll have to dig a little deeper to find quality kids guitar lessons but they do exist, either from private instructors that have worked with that age demographic a lot in the past (and are now bringing their expertise to the Web), or websites that feature a variety of lessons aimed at different age and skill levels. Lastly, a few quality kids guitar lessons may exist in book/CD/DVD format.

I’m interested in learning to play Jazz guitar in the style of Wes Montgomery
and George Benson, to name a few. do you have courses in this style?
also, what are some of the songs in Jazz you teach?
Hi John,
Great choices man! Those are fantastic artists to emulate.
We don’t teach any of the lessons personally, we just made this site to show other guitarists our findings since we bought tons of courses online.
That said, most of the lessons we’ve seen don’t offer many specific Jazz songs, though some cover the genre quite well.
More specifically, Guitar Tricks and JamPlay offer the most Jazz guitar lessons.
Hope that helps!
Kyle
