Rock Guitar Lessons

Rock derives from rock ‘n roll which originates from the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1960s, rock transformed into the biggest genre of music in the world, extremely popular in the United Kingdom and United States, influenced largely by rhythm and blues.

Alan Freed, a disc jockey from Cleveland, Ohio began playing rhythm and blues music for a multi-racial audience, and is credited with first using the phrase “rock and roll”.

Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis are largely considered three of the most influential early rock ‘n roll artists. By the mid-to-late 1960s, rock ‘n roll had completely taken over courtesy of The British Invasion. First, it was The Beatles and, later, The Rolling Stones (among many other lesser known British acts) that completely changed the U.S.

Today, rock music is divided into a number of sub-genres, including hybrids like blues rock, country rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, progressive rock, punk rock, alternative rock, indie rock and many, many more.
